The International Festival of Organ, Choral, and Chamber Music is a cycle of unique events, which has already become an integral part of the cultural tradition of Gdańsk. For many years the Festival – one of the oldest cyclical projects held in Pomerania – has attracted both the local residents, and numerous tourist interested in the rich cultural offer addressed not only at Polish music lovers, but at foreigners, too, thanks to the event’s international dimension.
In this years’ 48th edition of the event the festival concerts will be held on each Friday of July and August at 8.15 p.m. at the majestic St. Mary’s Basilica in the very heart of Gdańsk. To mark the Feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a special concert will be held on 15th August at 8.30 p.m. On this solemn event we will have an occasion to admire Polski Chór Kameralny [the Polish Chamber Choir] on stage, an ensemble of international renown, performing under the baton of Maestro Jan Łukaszewski.
During the nine scheduled concerts the audience will hear organ music played on the historic instrument featuring 46 voices set in an early-Baroque organ case of 1627. The festival owes its multidimensional nature to the presentation of not only great masterpieces of organ music, but also to the wonderful interpretations of choral works. The walls of the Basilica will resound with vocal music performed by e.g. the Music Everywhere Choir conducted by Beata Śnieg. This year’s opening concert will feature the outstanding Nobilis String Orchestra conducted by Sylwia Janiak-Kobylińska.
